What is it? |
The Home Front in East Dunbartonshire 1939-1945 is a structured one-day learning experience focusing on The Home Front, Evacuation and Rationing devised by the Educational Resource Service. The learning experience is designed to augment the work already being undertaken in the classroom and used ideally as a mid-topic stimulus to entice the pupils to further study. A stations approach has been used and within each topic area there are three work stations that the pupils visit simultaneously.
All the activities are fully supported by worksheets devised by a practising teacher which have been designed to be non-threatening and 'child friendly' and where appropriate, humorous.
Pupils will have the opportunity to explore a variety of media such as video, scripted dramatisations, role-play clothes, unusual artefacts and photographic evidence to broaden their knowledge and understanding of the period. The pupils will feel that they are taking part in an exciting and novel activity, while they are, in fact, being exposed to a variety of important learning situations. Pupils will be given opportunities to work individually, with partners or as a group in researching, recording and analysing information.
The learning experience has a strong local emphasis and schools are encouraged as part of the day to invite older members of the community who have a variety of experiences of this very era to participate in the visit.
Full teacher background notes and associated paperwork is supplied. Schools will be charged a nominal fee of £50 per class to cover administration costs.
