The Home Front in East Dunbartonshire 1939-1945

The Home Front

Work station 1

Pupils can actually sit in the replica air raid shelter.  (We can't re-create the dampness and the cold though!)

Pupils' listening skills are tested as they listen to the specially commissioned scripted dramatisation.

These pupils are enjoying the air raid shelter experience.

Work station 2

The handling of artefacts lends authenticity to the pupils' learning experience and a greater understanding of the period.
Worksheets have been specifically designed to encourage the pupils to participate in the project.  Discovery learning is a main feature of the learning experience.

Unusual artefacts are fully discussed and many theories are offered by the pupils as to their use.

Pupils can compare and contrast objects of the period with objects today.

Teachers and Educational Resource Service staff dress in the period too!

They are also on hand to help pupils with their investigations.

Role-play has a significant function in the project as it facilitates the pupils interpretation of events and points of view.
